ABAKUS by Marsha Chun-Matsubara 'Rice Blast' Oversized Statement Pearl Necklace

Sensational future vintage necklace by Abakus (Marsha Chun-Matsubara), circa 2007. Marsha's fantastic and rare pieces were sold at Barney's and to private clients. Her jewelry line was short lived, but her impact was mighty. Consistently regarded as a favorite amongst the industry's top stylists, her pieces often graced the pages of Vogue, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, and more (see image here from Vogue Italia, shot by Steven Meisel and styled by Lori Goldstein). This incredible necklace was the first piece she made, and inspired the started of her collection. Made of over 1,000 pearls, consisting of Chinese 'Kiska' rice shaped freshwater peals, custom cage ball round freshwater pearls, and Japanese faux paper mache pearls, drilled in different spots to create an abundance and asymmetry. Black filigree 'lace' discs and a brilliant large button, both made of German lucite, to conceal the gunmetal snap clasp. A large, statement piece that is surprisingly not overbearing to wear.
