Romeo Gigli Vintage AW 1989 Burgundy Velvet Embellished Shawl Collar Cropped Coat

Absolutely sublime vintage Romeo Gigli coat from Fall/Winter 1989. This spectacular piece comes in a deep reddish-brown burgundy velvet with a moire acetate lining. Featuring one of Gigli's most noteworthy elements- the ultra wide shawl collar that can extend to a hood. The shawl collar and lapel are fully embellished with the most beautiful copper and blackened gold metal embroidery, as well as darkened bronze metal fabric rosettes throughout. The blackening adds the most incredible depth and uniqueness to the piece. Wide cut. While the cropped length is divine and completely in line with Gigli's silhouettes, it appears that this piece may have been professionally shortened at some point. While this is mentioned for transparency, it absolutely does not detract from the wearability of the piece.
