Sahatiel Mandalian Vintage 1920s Turkish Inspired Pearl Floral Enamel Chainmail Metal Mesh Handbag

Stunning and rare vintage/antique handbag from the 1920s, by Sahatiel Mandalian (Mandalian Mfg Co.). One of the early manufacturers of the iconic mesh handbag, alongside Whiting & Davis, Mr. Mandalian holds the patents to a lot of the associated design elements these bags are known for. Immigrating to the United States from Turkey, many of his bags feature geometric and pictorial designs inspired by Turkish textiles and rugs. This particular bag features a gorgeous floral design in shades of mint green, peach, salmon, and more, his signature 'pearl enamel', a pearlized, semi-metallic enamel finish that is absolutely beautiful in person. Silver tone teardrop beads dangle from the fringed edge of the bag. Intricate, ornate brass hinged frame closure, with a lovely brass chain suitable for hand, wrist, or elbow carry. Lined in light green silk crepe.

Measurements: Overall Measurements of 7.5" x 4.75", with a usable space of 5.75" x 4.5", Strap Drop 6"

Condition: Great overall condition - enamel is near flawless. Darkening and varying shades of metal on the silver dangling beads. Minor signs of wear to the brass hardware. Lining has spots, soiling, and separation from the frame at the top. An easy fix, but due to the age, we felt it important to keep these original attributes intact. Priced accordingly.
