Thierry Mugler Vintage 1985-86 ICONIC 'Benitier Plisse' Gold Pleated Silk Lame Bustier Top
BREATHTAKING and iconic vintage Thierry Mugler top, circa 1984-1986. The origin collection of this piece often varies, but what appears to be the only documented photo of it, shot by Thierry Mugler himself of the effervescent Claude Heidemeyer is dated 1986, so we're going with that even though it doesn't really matter, does it? There's things in 1984 that resemble it, and there's things in 1985 that do, too. Whatever the case- this bustier transcends time and is a literal work of art. The photo, titled 'Benitier Plisse', or pleated vessel, is aptly named. Perfectly pleated gold lame wraps the piece - creating a shell effect at the breast with a plunging bust line. The pleats overlay another layer of gold lame- this lining layer is backed with support inside. Concealed, built in breast cups for an estimated A/B cup, although it could balance on the outer of a larger cup size. Snap closure at backside, concealing a line of hook and eyes. This piece is absolutely remarkable, a collector's item, and definitely worthy of a museum.
