Zandra Rhodes Vintage 1969 'Knitted Circle' Collection Trompe L'oeil Quilted Satin Caftan Circle Dress (Britt Ekland Owned)
Rarest of the rare, vintage Zandra Rhodes museum-level piece from her very first collection in 1969, "The Knitted Circle". This exceptional treasure can found in both the Met & the V&A. This particular piece has it's own additional incredible provenance - obtained from a private collector who acquired it from Christie's back in 1996, this very piece once belonged to Swedish model and actress Britt Ekland, which we proudly own the photo of her wearing to the premiere of The Magic Christian. This quilted satin beauty features the trompe l'oeil 'knit motif' print with other notheworthy Zandra Rhodes hallmarks. Statement making puffed balloon sleeves with gathered elastic cuff that can be worn in a variety of ways. Full, complete circle sweep that extends from the quilted yoke. Double layered/lined. A near once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own.
This design has also been photographed on Geschi Fengler by Clive Arrowsmith for British Vogue. There is an interview with Zandra for INTERVIEW Magazine where she mentions/recalls Peter Sellers purchasing this piece for Britt Ekland from her studio.
